New Student Information

I'd like to train at Hand to Hand. When can I start?
A new beginner (white belt) group usualy starts at the beginning of each semester. This class is appropriate for those who have never trained in a martial art before or do not have rank in Kajukenbo. Those who have experience in other arts should also start with this class in order to learn the basic techniques and forms of this system. People with significant experience in other martial arts often advance more quickly than those who are new to this type of training, but we believe it is important for all new student to get a solid background in Kajukenbo techniques and philosophy. Your instructor will ask about your previous experience.

When are classes for new beginners?
The next new beginners class starts on Monday, April 28, 2008. Ongoing beginners classes will be held on Mondays from 6:00-7:30 and Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:00pm. Midway through the 8-week course, students may attend our Saturday classes (9-11am).

The introductory 2-month class costs $150-200, which includes your monthly dues, registration fee, and a free Hand to Hand T-shirt. Thereafter, dues are $75-$100/month for unlimited classes. All dues & fees are structured on an income-based sliding scale. Please contact us for more details or register online here.

How many classes should I attend each week?
It is best to try and attend both the Tuesday and Thursday classes. It is possible to come on only one of these nights, but since this is a time when you will learn lots of new material it is best to attend these classes on a regular schedule or you may miss important information. If you wish you may also attend the Saturday class. That class is open to all levels.

How much does it cost?
We are a membership based organization. For $75 - $90 a month (sliding scale) students may attend as many classes as they are qualified for. The cost is not based on how many classes you attend. In addition there is a start up fee. There are no contracts. However, all students must pay fully for each month to maintain their membership privileges. This includes times when the student is on vacation or out of town.

Who teaches the new beginners class?
You will have a well qualified Kajukenbo advanced belt teaching your beginners class. Your main instructor will probably be assisted by one or more higher ranking students who have years of training at Hand to Hand. At times, your class will be taught by the head instructor as we feel it is important to get to know all the students.
